What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2021 Kia K5?
The NHTSA has issued 1 recall affecting the 2021 Kia K5 that concerns the front passenger Occupant Classification and Detection System (OCS/ODS) unit, which may not detect a child restraint system. This defect can cause the front passenger air bag to deploy when a child restraint is present, increasing risk of injury to the child. Kia will replace the faulty OCS/ODS unit free of charge; the recall campaign began March 18, 2021 (Kia recall SC207) and owners may also contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542 for details.
How do I check if my 2021 Kia K5 has an open recall?
You can check your VIN at NHTSA.gov or bring the vehicle to Nalley Kia in Lithonia and we will verify recall status for free. Enter your 17-character VIN at the NHTSA recall lookup or contact our service center and we will check using OEM diagnostic tools. If you prefer a visit, schedule service online and our factory-trained technicians will inspect and advise at no charge.
How much does a 2021 Kia K5 recall repair cost?
Recall repairs for the 2021 Kia K5 are performed free of charge by the manufacturer at a certified dealer. The specific air bag OCS/ODS replacement tied to recall SC207 is covered by Kia and there is no cost to vehicle owners when completed at a franchise dealer. If you need additional service beyond the recall, ask about our service specials and available service financing or pre-approval to help manage any out-of-pocket work.
Can I get my 2021 Kia K5 recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Manufacturer recall repairs must be completed by an authorized franchise dealer to ensure OEM parts and documented recall completion. Independent shops cannot perform a manufacturer free-recall repair that updates NHTSA and manufacturer records; Nalley Kia will complete the OCS/ODS replacement using OEM parts and register the repair. To avoid delays or warranty complications, schedule service with our factory-certified team and ask about our service financing options if you need other repairs.
How long does a 2021 Kia K5 recall repair take?
Most manufacturer recall repairs for the 2021 Kia K5, such as replacement of the OCS/ODS unit, are typically completed within a few hours, but times can vary by parts availability and dealer schedule. When you arrive at Nalley Kia in Lithonia our technicians will confirm parts and give an estimated turnaround time; some repairs may require same-day service while others could take longer. To minimize wait time, schedule appointment online and check current service specials before your visit.
Does an open recall affect my 2021 Kia K5's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can negatively impact trade-in offers and resale value because many buyers and dealers verify recall status before purchase. Resolving recall SC207 at Nalley Kia protects your vehicle’s value and provides documented proof that the air bag OCS/ODS issue was corrected using OEM parts at a certified franchise dealer. If you plan to trade, visit our appraisal page at sell-your-car-online.htm after completing recall repairs to maximize offers.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2021 Kia K5 recall?
Open safety recalls do not always cause a failed state inspection, but some jurisdictions or insurers may require recall repairs for compliance or coverage. Because the 2021 Kia K5 recall SC207 affects air bag detection for a child restraint, it is a safety-related issue that should be repaired promptly to avoid potential inspection, insurance, or safety complications.
