8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2019 Kia Soul EV?
The NHTSA records show 4 recalls affecting the 2019 Kia Soul EV, covering steering and parking/gear-position concerns (two steering entries and two transmission/gear-position entries under campaigns SC155 and SC191). Two recalls (SC155) relate to a pinion plug that may allow separation of the pinion gear from the steering gear assembly, which can cause steering loss. Two recalls (SC191) relate to a parking/gear-position issue where the parking mechanism can be damaged if Park is selected before the vehicle fully stops, potentially allowing unintended movement. All recall remedies are provided by Kia dealers at no cost to owners under the manufacturer recall program.
How do I check if my 2019 Kia Soul EV has an open recall?
You can check your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring your vehicle to Nalley Kia and we will check the recall status for free. Visit the NHTSA recall lookup tool and enter your 17-character VIN for official status, or contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 for recall numbers SC155 and SC191. If you prefer local help, bring your VIN to our service center and we will confirm any open recalls and explain the remedy — you can schedule service online.
How much does a 2019 Kia Soul EV recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are free of charge to the vehicle owner when performed at an authorized dealer; Nalley Kia will perform required repairs at no cost under Kia's program. The remedies for SC155 and SC191 include inspection and securing or replacing steering components and updating ECU/software; all parts and labor related to these recalls are covered by Kia. If additional non-recall work is needed, we will provide an estimate; Nalley Kia also offers service financing so you can get service now and pay later.
Can I get my 2019 Kia Soul EV recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs should be completed at an authorized Kia dealer to ensure the remedy is free and uses OEM parts and factory procedures; Nalley Kia is a certified Kia franchise dealer for recall work. Independent shops may perform repairs, but manufacturer recall repairs are only guaranteed and covered when completed by an authorized dealer using Kia-specified parts and software updates. For safety and warranty compliance, schedule your free recall repair with Nalley Kia by using our schedule service page.
How long does a 2019 Kia Soul EV recall repair take?
Repair time varies by campaign: a software update (SC191) is often completed in under an hour, while a steering inspection or part replacement (SC155) may take one to a few hours. Nalley Kia's factory-trained technicians use OEM diagnostic tools to quickly identify required remedies and will give you an accurate time estimate when you schedule appointment. If your visit coincides with a high recall volume, we may provide a loaner or work with you on convenient timing; check our current service specials for offers that can make the visit easier.
Does an open recall affect my 2019 Kia Soul EV's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can reduce buyer confidence and potentially lower trade-in or resale value; addressing recalls preserves vehicle value and marketability. Many dealers and private buyers verify NHTSA recall status before purchase; getting recalls completed at Nalley Kia protects your resale value and provides documented service records. For an immediate appraisal after recall completion, visit our trade-in portal at sell-your-car-online.htm.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2019 Kia Soul EV recall?
State inspection rules vary, but some safety-related recalls may affect inspection outcomes or insurance claims if left unaddressed; it's safest to resolve recalls promptly at a dealer. Because steering loss or unintended vehicle movement (the issues described in SC155 and SC191) are safety risks, addressing them at Nalley Kia reduces inspection or insurance complications.
