Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2017 Kia Sportage?
The NHTSA records show 15 recalls affecting the 2017 Kia Sportage across multiple components, including fuel system parts, engine bearings, brake HECU circuitry, trailer wiring, and a certification label issue. Major items include six fuel pump/fuel pipe-related recalls (possible fuel leaks and fire risk), four brake/HECU recalls (short-circuit and potential engine-compartment fire), an engine bearing recall (possible engine seizure), a trailer brake light wiring recall, a fuel tank related recall, and a tire pressure label correction recall. All manufacturer-issued recall repairs are performed free of charge; contact Nalley Kia or the NHTSA for official details.
How do I check if my 2017 Kia Sportage has an open recall?
You can check for open recalls by entering your VIN on NHTSA.gov or by contacting Nalley Kia; we will verify recalls for free. Bring your VIN to our service team or use the NHTSA VIN lookup online; our factory-trained technicians will confirm any open items and explain next steps. If a recall is open, click to schedule service so we can complete the free repair at Nalley Kia in Lithonia, GA.
How much does a 2017 Kia Sportage recall repair cost?
Recall repairs for the 2017 Kia Sportage are free of charge under the manufacturer's recall program. Kia covers parts and labor for NHTSA-registered recalls; Nalley Kia completes the work using OEM parts and factory procedures at no cost to you. If you need help covering non-recall maintenance at the same visit, ask about our service financing and pre-approval options at service financing.
Can I get my 2017 Kia Sportage recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Manufacturer recall repairs must be completed by an authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts and factory-correct procedures; a certified franchise dealer like Nalley Kia is the recommended choice. Independent shops may perform some repairs, but recalls are logged and completed correctly only when performed by a franchise dealer using Kia-approved parts, diagnostic tools, and software updates. Rely on Nalley Kia's factory-trained technicians and OEM tools to protect safety, warranty compliance, and future resale value; you can schedule service online.
How long does a 2017 Kia Sportage recall repair take?
Repair times vary by recall but most dealer recall repairs for the 2017 Kia Sportage range from under an hour for label corrections or fuse replacements to several hours for part replacement and software updates. The HECU brake circuit recall may require fuse replacement and a software update for EPB-equipped vehicles; fuel-pipe inspections and replacements depend on diagnostics and parts availability. To minimize wait time, schedule service in advance and check current service specials at service specials.
Does an open recall affect my 2017 Kia Sportage's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved NHTSA recall can reduce buyer confidence and may negatively impact trade-in offers or private-sale prices for the 2017 Kia Sportage. Many dealers and buyers check a vehicle's recall status; having recalls completed at Nalley Kia with documentation protects resale value and streamlines trade-in or sale transactions. To preserve value, get open recalls repaired for free at Nalley Kia and consider a documented service visit before listing or trading your vehicle; see our trade-in page at sell your car online.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2017 Kia Sportage recall?
Some safety-related recalls — such as those affecting brakes, lighting, or fuel leaks — can lead to inspection failures depending on state inspection criteria and local authorities. Because several recalls for the 2017 Kia Sportage involve fuel leaks and brake circuitry, unresolved items could impact inspection outcomes in some states; checking and repairing recalls promptly avoids this risk. If you need a quick VIN check and repair appointment, schedule service at Nalley Kia; we also offer service financing to help if additional maintenance is needed.
