8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2017 Kia Soul EV?
The NHTSA database shows 4 recall entries related to this vehicle in our records, impacting the transmission/parking mechanism and the steering pinion plug (recall campaigns SC191 and SC155). These recalls involve a parking mechanism/gear position issue (which can allow unintended vehicle movement) and a steering pinion plug that could allow the pinion gear to separate and lead to loss of steering. Nalley Kia recommends you verify applicability by VIN and schedule service if your VIN is affected; recall repairs are performed free of charge at our dealership.
How do I check if my 2017 Kia Soul EV has an open recall?
You should check your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring your vehicle to Nalley Kia and we will check your VIN free of charge. Visit the NHTSA recall lookup with your 17-character VIN, or let our factory-trained technicians confirm status when you schedule service. We can also explain any applicable recall campaigns (SC191 and SC155) and arrange a convenient appointment.
How much does a 2017 Kia Soul EV recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are free of charge to the vehicle owner when performed at an authorized dealer. Kia-authorized recall work for issues like the parking mechanism or steering pinion plug will be completed at no cost under the recall program; Nalley Kia uses OEM parts and factory diagnostic tools. If you need help getting to the dealership, ask about our service financing options so you can get service now and pay later.
Can I get my 2017 Kia Soul EV recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs should be performed at an authorized Kia dealer to ensure free, correct completion using OEM parts and factory software updates. An independent shop cannot always access manufacturer software updates or warranty recall parts; Nalley Kia’s factory-trained technicians have the exact tools and parts required for campaigns like SC191 and SC155. For safety and warranty protection, bring your vehicle to Nalley Kia — your local certified Kia dealer — and schedule appointment today.
How long does a 2017 Kia Soul EV recall repair take?
Most recall repairs, including software updates for the parking mechanism or inspections/repairs for steering, are often completed within a few hours to a day depending on parts availability. Nalley Kia will provide an estimated turnaround when you schedule service; urgent safety recalls are prioritized and we offer loaner options when available. Always call ahead and check our current service specials at service specials before your appointment.
Does an open recall affect my 2017 Kia Soul EV's trade-in or resale value?
Yes — unresolved recalls can reduce trade-in and resale value because many buyers and dealers check NHTSA records and VIN history before purchase. Having recalls completed at Nalley Kia protects your vehicle’s value and provides documentation of completed manufacturer repairs; you can get an appraisal at our trade page sell your car online. Resolving recalls also avoids potential insurance or inspection complications and improves buyer confidence at sale time.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2017 Kia Soul EV recall?
Some safety-related recalls can affect state inspection outcomes if they impact required safety systems; unresolved recalls that compromise steering or parking could be problematic. To avoid inspection or registration issues, bring your vehicle to Nalley Kia to confirm and complete any open recall work free of charge. Our service team can advise on local inspection rules for Lithonia, GA and the greater Atlanta area and help you schedule appointment as needed.
